It is with great sadness that we announce that
Bob Atkinson has passed away.

Bob was an influential member on the committee of the 6Towns Photographic Club and helped to shape the club schedule and activities. He had a passion for studio work and portrait photography, sharing his knowledge and ideas with members in tutorial workshops both in the club and at weekends.

Bob became a tremendous friend and will be very sadly missed. We send our condolences to his wife Pat and family at this sad time

Message from Chairman on the sad news that Bob Atkinson has passed away.

Dear 6Towns photographic club members and friends of Bob Atkinson it is with great sadness today I have to announce that after a long battle with cancer our dear friend Bob Atkinson has passed away.

Bob joined us at 6Towns photographic club following a visit during one of our open days and due to his kind nature and enthusiasm quickly became very popular. Having never used a camera before he very quickly picked things up and it wasn’t long before he was hiring his first model and buying his first studio lights which became his passion.

I like many who knew Bob took an instant like to his enthusiastic nature and learnt a great many things about lighting and modelling with his studio and Photoshop sessions which were always packed with members. Everyone at 6T knew that when Bob put something on it was an evening not to be missed.

He was a great help to our club joining the committee and driving the clubs ambitions and direction forward by organizing many events and evenings, it always amazed me how someone who only a short time ago had no interest in photography could now be so impassioned by it. He was a very intelligent and caring man who would often go to great lengths to assist members and friends with their photography often at his own cost.

Bobs interest in portraiture also bought him a wider audience and he became well known in the local modelling community and to other photographers who were not part of 6Towns photographic club I am sure they will be greatly saddened by his passing.

Bob was a wonderful friend and colleague and will be sadly missed by all.

Wayne Eardley.

Bob Atkinson - Bob's profile on the club website, in his own words

Hi, I’m Bob Atkinson.
I am a keen amateur photographer from Newcastle Under Lyme.  I have been a member of the Six Towns Photographic Club for about five years.  During that time, and thanks to the help and support of club members, have developed a passion for studio portraiture and location fashion photography.  I also dabble in compositing.

My photography skills have improved beyond measure since becoming a member of the Six Towns club.  The facilities are excellent, with a well-equipped studio that I use whenever I can, and the members are always on hand to help.
I regularly shoot with local models at Six Towns and am building up an impressive fashion and portraiture portfolio.

Thank you from the family of Bob Atkinson

I have been asked by Bob’s family to thank all club members and friends for their very kind messages of condolences that have been shared.
I am sure that Bob’s wife Pat, his sons Peter and Christopher and his family have found comfort in reading these messages at this very sad time.
A private funeral service has now been arranged for Tuesday, due to Covid restrictions the service will be for family only. Please respect family wishes.
The family has asked that instead of flowers that anyone wishing to make a donation please support The Douglas Macmillan Hospice. Your donations will help show this valuable organisation that their work to support Bob and his family is very much appreciated.
Best wishes
